The school of materials science and engineering of Qingdao University was founded in 1958. After more than 60 years of development, it has become one of the top colleges in Qingdao University in terms of teachers' level, teaching quality, scientific research level, discipline construction level and students' training quality.
The college has a master's degree, a doctor's degree authorization point and a post doctoral mobile station in materials science and engineering, Materials and Chemical Engineering (Material Engineering) Master degree authorization points, polymer materials and engineering, composite materials and engineering and inorganic non-metallic materials engineering three undergraduate majors. Materials science and engineering was selected as "Shandong Province first-class discipline" and "Shandong Province high-level discipline" 。 The specialty of polymer materials and engineering and composite materials and engineering has been approved as the national first-class undergraduate specialty construction point, which is "the core specialty and subordinate specialty of high-level application-oriented specialty group in Shandong Province". The three undergraduate majors are "the core specialty and subordinate specialty of Shandong Province's education service new and old kinetic energy conversion specialty docking industry specialty group".
The college has a high-level teaching staff with the distinguished professors of the Yangtze River scholars award program and the winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars as the leading figures. At present, there are 90 full-time teachers, including 26 professors, 42 associate professors and 84 doctors.
The college has national and provincial scientific research platforms, such as the State Key Laboratory of biopolysaccharide fiber forming and ecological textile jointly constructed by the Ministry of education, the innovative talent introduction base of polymer hybrid materials under the "111" program of the Ministry of education, the national international joint research center of hybrid materials technology, and the national international scientific and technological cooperation base of polymer hybrid materials; There are six research institutes directly under the University, namely, marine fiber new materials research institute, Hybrid Materials Research Institute, energy and Environmental Materials Research Institute, graphene Application Technology Innovation Research Institute, biological and medical materials research institute and Biochemical Engineering Research Institute.
In recent years, the college has undertaken 3 national key R & D projects, 48 national level projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation, and 91 provincial and ministerial projects. It has won the second prize of national science and technology progress award, the first prize of Shandong Provincial Science and technology progress, the first and second prize of Shandong technological invention, and many national, provincial and municipal science and technology awards and honors.
The quality of talent training is high and the employment of graduates is good. The postgraduate entrance examination rate of undergraduates has risen to 61.9% year after year. A considerable proportion of master's students have obtained doctoral candidates from famous universities such as Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University and Fudan University. Every year, some students apply to world-class universities such as Columbia, Carnegie, St. Louis, Washington, and receive full scholarships. Graduates are mainly engaged in scientific research, technology development, process and equipment design, production and management in the fields of polymer materials and composite materials synthesis, modification and processing, etc. Among the alumni, one was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering, and three were elected as national outstanding youth.
